Last school year I ran an impromptu experiment with one of my classes. Like any other day I asked the class to sit in a particular area in the gym so I could give instruction for the activity of the day. On this particular day my promethean board was out, but not on. Though I was standing in a different direction than the Promethean board most of the students sat facing the board, remember it was blank. I stood quietly to see how many students would turn to face me, and a couple turned within a couple seconds. I decided to see how long it would take for the whole class to realize that the blank screen wasn’t going to come on and entertain them. 12 minutes, it took 12 minutes for every student to realize the screen wasn’t coming on. As a Physical Education Teacher I worry that screens are taking the place of real play, and it is having a negative effect on the health and wellness of our kids. Take a look at this video.
