My name is Mr. Anderson, however, to kinders I’m often called “Gym” “PE” on occasion they even call me “Mommy”. This will be my 25th year teaching at Inez “I made it to 25!!” I was born and raised in Roswell, NM. Though I’m fairly sure I haven’t met an alien, my sisters often make me wonder. I have 3 older sisters and an older brother, yes I’m the baby. I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education from the University of New Mexico. I am also a Certified Personal Trainer, Fitness Nutrition Specialist, and Corrective Exercise Specialist with The National Association of Sports Medicine (NASM). Fitness has become a big part of my life. By becoming a certified personal trainer I feel more equipped to teach students, teachers, and parents how to improve their level of fitness and health. In 2006 I was awarded the New Mexico Association for Health Physical Education Recreation and Dance (NMAHPERD) sports program of the year award for helping to start a USTA elementary tennis program. In 2008 I was awarded the NMAHPERD Elementary P.E. Teacher of the Year. In 2016-2017 I was the President of my state Physical Education organization, Society of Health and Physical Educators (SHAPE NM). I am also very proud that in 2016 Inez became the first school in the state of New Mexico to receive a National Award from Let’s Move, Active Schools Program. The award is awarded to schools that have created an environment that encourages whole school movement before, during and after school. In 2019 I was honored by the New Mexico Office of African American Affairs with the Everyday Hero Award and became a New Mexico Golden Apple Fellow.
I grew up in a family that enjoyed outdoor recreation. Much of my childhood was spent hiking through the woods and deserts of New Mexico looking for a new fishing hole. My brother introduced me to a multitude of traditional and non-traditional sports including tennis, skiing, and golf. Soccer was my main sport. My main activities now include training for and participating in triathlons and other endurance activities. Last year I completed my first Half 70.3 Ironman!! I also enjoy spending time at the gym kicking my own bottom.
I am married and have 3 daughters, the oldest, Jazmine graduated from UNM with a biology degree and now works at Sandia Labs. The middle Elise received her degree in education from UNM, and is now teaching fifth grade in Texas(WHY!!), and the youngest Jo, just graduated from UNM with a Biology Degree. All three attended Inez and received an incredible educational foundation from the amazing teachers I get to work with. My wife Is a fifth grade teacher here at Inez. Yes it’s a family affair here at Inez. I love my job, and love my school, and hope to bring your child as much joy as they give to me.
The top pic was taken in Negril Jamaica where I taught fitness classes in the summer. Below was taken in Sedona, San Francisco, and Grand Cayman Island.

Hello,
This is Fridahan, one of your old students? I went to Inez from Kindergarten through fourth grade and I remember being in your class! I just wanted to say hello and that you were one of my favorite teachers ever — I still talk about you with some of my friends now that I moved! It’s awesome to see that you are doing amazing things in New Mexico and I hope I can go back and say hello to you in person! I’m going to be a sophomore this year and I wish you the best with your students now!
With love,
Frida
Oh my goodness, of course I remember you Fridahan! You had one of the best laughs ever. I hope you and your family are doing wonderfully. If you are ever in Albuquerque it would be great if you stopped by Inez. Have a wonderful rest of the summer, and good luck as a big bad sophomore.
