Last year Inez PE and Wellness department received a Science, Technology, Engineering and Math grant from the APS foundation.  As part of that grant I purchased heart rate monitors and activity trackers.  The fourth and fifth graders have been using the heart rate monitors in class since last year.  Students have learned a great deal about the intensity of various physical activities.  Students who use the HRM are motivated to work harder.

Up to this point the students have not used the activity trackers due to the logistics of assigning them and getting them back.  My vision for using the activity trackers is that students will wear them for the school week, both day and night.  The trackers will track how active they are and at what intensity.  The goal is for students to be active for at least 60 minutes a day.  If worn at night the trackers will also track sleep.  Families will be able to access all the information gathered@ http://www.polargofit.com each student has their own sign in credentials.  5th grade students will be my test group.

Because the activity trackers will be used off campus I will need parent permission before I can allow a student to use the equipment.  Please take the time to look at the video clip.  If you are interested in your child participating please email me @ anderson_mi@aps.edu .  Make sure you include your name and your students name.  I will begin allowing students to try them out next Monday November 9th.
